About Us
The Smeal Student Mentors are a group of approximately 135 sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are selected to aid first-year students in their transition to Penn State. These peer mentors often serve as a "first friend" on campus and are available to answer questions about academics, student life, and more. Mentors also assist the Advising Center in planning key events throughout the year.
Each mentor is assigned a group of 8-12 freshmen and is available to answer questions before the first-years' arrival on campus and throughout the school year. Mentors usually contact their mentees approximately a month before the start of the fall semester and are encouraged to reach out with any questions or concerns.
