Key Events
In addition to individual mentor/mentee hangouts, the Smeal Student Mentors host several organization-wide events throughout the year in order to get to know the first-year students and address any concerns they may have.
Fall College Orientation Day (August)
Held the first weekend of the fall semester, Fall College Orientation Day is where first-year students meet their mentors and learn more about what to expect at Penn State and Smeal. They also hear from the Dean of the Smeal College of Business and President of Smeal Student Mentors. Finally, students are introduced to their academic adviser, who will assist them during their time at Penn State.
The Smeal Student Mentor Welcome Picnic (September)
This laid-back event gives first-year students the opportunity to mingle with peers and mentors within the first few weeks of the fall semester while enjoying pizza and refreshments outside on the business building's lawn.
First-Year Seminar Visits (September)
Mentors visit first-year seminars (PSU 006) to talk to students about their experiences and the countless resources available to them at Penn State.
Snack & Schedule (October)
Typically held in October, the Snack & Schedule is an opportunity for first-years to meet with mentors one-on-one to get advice about scheduling classes for the spring semester. This serves as a supplement to meetings with their academic advisor and allows them to learn from the experience of older students.
Phone-A-Thon (Spring Semester)
Mentors get together for several days in the spring to call accepted students and offer congratulations on their acceptance to Smeal. They also provide accepted students with a resource for more information about Smeal and Penn State.
